With over seven decades of deep roots in Houston County and more than 70 years of combined public service, Rev. Dr. Rutha Jackson has officially announced her candidacy for Houston County Commissioner Post 2 — running on a platform of servant leadership, community safety, and transparent government.
Rev. Dr. Rutha Jackson has officially announced her candidacy for Houston County Commissioner Post 2, launching her campaign with a clear message: this race is about people, not politics.
Speaking to a room of energized supporters, Dr. Jackson laid out her vision for Houston County with the conviction of someone who has spent a lifetime here — attending local schools, raising her family in the community, and dedicating her career to serving its people.
"I am a servant leader," she told the crowd. "My job is to listen, to build bridges, and to put the needs of this community ahead of everything else."
A LIFETIME OF SERVICE
Dr. Jackson's credentials speak for themselves. She brings 25.5 years of service in the Houston County school system, where she invested in the education and futures of generations of local students. She spent 13 years at Robins Air Force Base — one of the region's most vital economic engines — giving her a firsthand understanding of the relationship between military readiness and community prosperity. And she served 33 years in the United States Air Force Reserves, a commitment that reflects a discipline and dedication to duty that she will bring to the Commissioner's office every single day.
That is more than 70 years of combined public service — all of it rooted right here in Houston County.
A PLATFORM BUILT ON WHAT MATTERS MOST
Dr. Jackson's platform is grounded in the issues Houston County residents talk about most:
Roads and Infrastructure — Neglected roads hurt families, damage vehicles, and drive away investment. Dr. Jackson is committed to a transparent, accountable approach to maintaining and improving the county's infrastructure.
Community Safety — Every resident deserves to feel safe. Dr. Jackson will support law enforcement while also investing in the community programs that stop problems before they start.
Veteran Support — As a veteran herself, Dr. Jackson understands the sacrifices military families make. She will fight to ensure Houston County honors and supports its veterans at the local level.
Local Business Growth — Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. Dr. Jackson will cut red tape and create a county government that is a partner for entrepreneurs, not an obstacle.
Transparent Tax Management — Taxpayers deserve to know exactly how their money is being spent. Dr. Jackson is committed to full financial accountability and responsible stewardship of public funds.
A GRASSROOTS CAMPAIGN POWERED BY COMMUNITY
Dr. Jackson made clear from the outset that this campaign will be won the old-fashioned way — neighbor by neighbor, door by door. She called on supporters to volunteer for canvassing, phone banking, sign placement, and poll watching, and urged everyone in the room to carry the message to their churches, families, and neighborhoods.
"Talk to your neighbors. Talk to your family. Talk to everyone you know," she said. "That is how we build a movement."
The event closed with a spirited call-and-response that captured the energy of the room — a shared affirmation of a belief in building a stronger, more responsive Houston County.
